Camera Basics

TASK 1: To create a timeline illustrating the history of photography. Ongoing project for entire 6 week duration. Presentation methods
SUCCESS CRITERIA: Timeline is completed in a unique way creatively using a variety of media to ensure. Students have performed research into the history of photography. 

TASK 2: Depth of Field (DOF) Students will gain a clear understanding of the relationship between aperture and DOF and also the relationship with the shutter  speed to attain properly exposed pictures
SUCCESS CRITERIA:  Students will produce at least 5 images demonstrating their understanding of how to control the DOF to create interesting compositions. Understand relation between aperture and shutter speed.

TASK 3:  Shutter Speed/Motion/Blur/ISO and White balance.
Students will be taught about ISO and White Balance, both will be evidenced within their sketchbook.—Colour temperature.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:   Students will produce a contact sheet of their photo shoots. Students will research, print and critique photographers who use motion blur effectively. Students will produce 2 images demonstrating motion blur, also images of existing photographers work.

TASK 4: Composition—Rule of Thirds. Students will gain an understanding of how to position the subject and background in such a way as to achieve attractive and successful compositions.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:  Production of a contact sheet and 2 images demonstrating good composition—students may also wish to use DOF/Motion Blur to emphasise composition.

TASK 5: Black & White/Colour. When to use colour, and black and white and why. Students will be taught about saturation and contrast. CMYK, RGB.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:  Students will produce a 6 images black and white and colour versions of the same picture, they will research black and white photographers and also specifically Martin Parr

TASK 6: Subject/Content.
Students to choose a theme/subject and to shoot 1 final image. Submission of Timeline & Final image chosen from selection
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
Students will feel confident about selecting subject, style and method of photography and will be able to discuss the reasons for their decisions.
